Meet Dr. Makover

Dr. Makover is board certified in rheumatology and has been in practice in Boca Raton since 1989. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of arthritic and
rheumatic diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, lupus, gout, and osteoporosis.

He was born in New York City and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his Doctor of Medicine from The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. His internship and residency were done at Temple University Hospital and his rheumatology fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Makover was board certified in internal medicine in 1985 and rheumatology in 1988. He has been in private practice since 1989.

He was a former clinical associate professor of medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He has won numerous awards and has published articles in leading medical journals.

He has four children and resides in Boca Raton with his wife.

Dr. Makover is on staff at Boca Raton Regional Hospital.

Meet Dr. Flinkenstein

Dr. Flinkenstein was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. His passion for integrating science, medicine and humanity began when he attended Touro University, where he was a Magna Cum Laude graduate and received “Top Biology Major” recognition.  His fondness for blending Medicine with helping others inspired him towards pursuing a Medical Doctorate degree, which he obtained at NYCOM in Long Island, NY. There he was granted honors recognition in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology courses.

Dr. Flinkenstein went on to receive his clinical training in Internal Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he completed his Residency in 2003. Thereafter, he received training in Rheumatology at the University of Massachusetts, where he completed his Fellowship in 2006. Dr. Flinkenstein achieved and maintains Board Certification in both Internal Medicine and Rheumatology disciplines.

Over the years Dr. Flinkenstein has accumulated an ample amount of clinical experience overseeing rheumatology clinics and directing an infusion suite. To quote Dr. Flinkenstein, “My practice philosophy is to care for patients like family and to address a patient’s concerns in a comprehensible and optimistic manner. My goals during a clinical encounter include striving to reduce a patient’s pain, while attempting to treat the underlying cause of their symptoms and improving their overall quality of life.”

Dr. Flinkenstein has special interest in evaluating and managing Arthritis, Musculoskeletal Pain, Autoimmune Rheumatological Diseases, Gout and Osteoporosis.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Flinkenstein has been a recipient of: Compassionate Doctor Recognitions, Top Doc and Patient Choice Awards.

Dr. Flinkenstein approaches his encounters with an open-minded and friendly personality. His personal interests include sports/physical fitness, hiking, reading, humor, spirituality, and spending time with family and friends. Dr. Flinkenstein is fluent in English and French. He also has familiarity with Hebrew and Yiddish.

Meet Natalie Akerman,
Nurse Practitioner

Natalie Akerman, our Nurse Practitioner, was born and raised in New Haven, CT. Natalie has been in healthcare since 2008. She received her nursing degree from Adelphi University and her Master’s in Nursing Science from Pace University, graduating Magna cum Laude from both. She served as an assistant professor at the Leinhard School of Nursing at Pace University.

As a nurse, Natalie worked primarily in pediatric emergency medicine and public health. Since becoming a Nurse Practitioner, Natalie has worked in emergency medicine, primary care and now rheumatology.

Natalie knew at a young age that she wanted to go into a profession where she helped people. It is therefore no surprise that she is know for her exceptional care and compassion for her patients. Natalie resides in Boca Raton, FL with her husband and four children.
